PayPal takes No. 1 in tech power ranking

Sep 15, 2026 2:51 AM · YahooFinance

PayPal Holdings (Nasdaq: PYPL) moved up three places to No. 1 in this week's Roundtable 100.

The payments company climbed as the committee weighed its profit outlook, share repurchases and plans for the PYUSD stablecoin against slower user growth and tougher checkout competition.

Published with TheStreet, the Roundtable 100 ranks 100 publicly traded technology growth assets. Committee analysts score each asset on team, safety, value, innovation and market dominance, with the average forming its power ranking.

Committee member John Divine said PayPal once traded as a high-growth payments company expected to keep adding accounts and taking checkout share. Apple and Shopify captured more online purchases as PayPal's user growth slowed.

Divine remains bullish on the company.

"PayPal is still one of the main ways consumers and merchants move money online," he said.

He also pointed to management's higher profit outlook and a multibillion-dollar share-repurchase program that is reducing the company's share count.

Another part of the case is PYUSD. PayPal has opened the stablecoin to outside developers, creating another distribution channel for its balance sheet.

PYUSD has a market value of about $2.76 billion and represents 0.91% of the stablecoin market, according to DeFiLlama.
