Alphabet’s Spark Agentic AI Will Beat Meta’s Muse in the Long Run

Sep 23, 2026 5:26 PM · YahooFinance

Alphabet (GOOGL) grew Cloud 82% and Gemini to 950 million users, while Meta (META) missed EPS as costs surged 55% despite strong revenue growth.

Alphabet's data moat spanning Search, YouTube, Android, and Cloud makes Gemini Spark structurally harder to replicate than Meta's advertising-driven Muse flywheel.

Just released. Our analysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and Google made the cut. Enter your email to see the other nine names and why GOOGL earned its spot. The report is free. Enter your email and see the full list.

Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) both delivered Q2 FY2026 results built on aggressive AI spending, yet the businesses underneath tell very different stories. Alphabet leaned on Cloud, Search, and Gemini adoption across the Fortune 100. Meta leaned on ad targeting powered by its Muse family and a fresh push into agentic products.

Alphabet posted $119.80B in revenue, up 24.2% year over year, with Google Cloud accelerating to +82% growth on enterprise AI infrastructure demand. CEO Sundar Pichai said "nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 using" Gemini Enterprise, and the Gemini App now counts 950 million monthly active users. That is enterprise gravity plus consumer reach in one quarter.

Meta grew fast but paid for it. Revenue hit $60.80B, +28% YoY, while EPS of $6.18 missed the $7.22 consensus, snapping a six-quarter streak. Ad impressions rose 14% and average price per ad rose 12%, powered by Muse-driven ranking. But total costs jumped 55% to $42.03B, and operating margin compressed to 31% from 43%.

Alphabet owns the entire pipeline: Search data, YouTube behavior, Android telemetry, Waymo driving miles, Workspace documents, and Cloud infrastructure feeding Gemini. That data moat is why Gemini Spark is highly likely to beat Muse for productivity and enterprise workloads due to Google's ownership of the underlying data ecosystem.

Meta is playing a different game. Zuckerberg described the company as a "full-stack technology company" with its own chips, models, and data centers, and pointed to a 60% jump in daily Meta AI interactions after Muse Spark integration. Business agents now serve more than 1 million businesses weekly on WhatsApp and Messenger. Consumer reach is winning today, per Meta's Muse leading the viral, real-world utility race.

Alphabet raised roughly $70B in combined equity and debt and suspended buybacks. Meta guided full-year 2026 capex to $130 billion to $145 billion. All that spending has to be powered, cooled, and networked by somebody, and we profiled seven suppliers riding that buildout in a free AI infrastructure report. I will be watching whether Cloud growth stays above 60% for Alphabet and whether Meta's ad-price momentum survives the $2.40B legal charges and youth-litigation calendar.

For my own money, Alphabet wins the decade. Trading at a forward P/E of 23 versus Meta at 20, GOOGL trades at a premium, yet the data ecosystem powering Spark is harder to replicate than Muse's advertising flywheel. Retail agrees for now: META Reddit sentiment hit 80, very bullish after Muse news, but hype fades faster than enterprise contracts. If you want turnaround torque and viral consumer AI, Meta fits. If you want the durable moat, Alphabet is where I would sit.
