Palm Valley Capital Management, an investment management firm, has issued the third-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Palm Valley Capital Fund." The letter can be downloaded here. During the quarter, the Palm Valley Capital Fund gained 1.61%, while the S&P SmallCap 600 Index fell 7.93% and the Morningstar Small Cap Total Return Index decreased by 5.60%. As of this period, 75.5% of the Fund's assets were in Treasury bills, and equity-only performance was 4.8%. In the quarter, small caps underperformed large caps, with the S&P 500 nearing its highs. High volatility in stocks during a rising market is similar to that of the tech bubble. Current trends show a preference for protecting present wealth over ensuring future prosperity, causing wealth redistribution through rising asset prices, resulting in societal disparities. The federal debt exceeding $40 trillion exemplifies this issue, with resources consumed today leading to future obligations. The situation raises critical questions about wealth distribution over time, rather than simply the current disparity between the rich and the poor. In its third-quarter 2026 investor letter, Palm Valley Capital Fund highlighted Flowers Foods, Inc. (NYSE:FLO). Flowers Foods, Inc. (NYSE:FLO) is a U.S.-based packaged bakery food products company. Palm Valley Capital Fund stated the following regarding Flowers Foods, Inc. (NYSE:FLO) in its Q3 2026 investor letter

"The three positions contributing most negatively to the Fund's Q3 performance were Rayonier (ticker: RYN), Flowers Foods, Inc. (NYSE:FLO), and Reynolds Consumer Products (ticker: REYN). Flowers Foods, a market leading producer of bread and bakery products, remains in a challenging operating environment characterized by rising costs, intense competition, and a value-conscious consumer. Demand for bread and bakery products has also been affected by the growing adoption of GLP-1 medications. During the second quarter, sales declined 4%, while earnings per share (EPS) fell to $0.21 from $0.30. Given weaker-than-expected first-half results and expectations for continued pressure in the third quarter, management lowered 2026 EPS guidance from $0.80–$0.90 to $0.75–$0.85. While we expect near-term trends to remain challenging, Flowers continues to generate free cash flow and remains committed to strengthening its balance sheet. We believe demand for bread will eventually stabilize, with comparisons becoming easier later this year and into 2027."
