After back-to-back days of outperformance this week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has nudged ahead the other major U.S. benchmarks for the month and year as well.

On a year-to-date basis, the Dow is up 9.7%, holding a small lead over of the S&P 500, which is up 8.5%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite, which is up 7%.

The Nasdaq yesterday flirted with trading in correction territory, or 10% below a recent high. The Dow is trading within 1% of a new record high.

In 2026, when the Dow and Nasdaq have diverged in daily direction, the blue-chip average was the one moving higher 53% of the time, compared with only 43% last year, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

If the Dow beats the S&P and Nasdaq this year with a positive return, it will be the first time that has happened since 2016.
