A furious rebound in semiconductor stocks on Tuesday helped the major indexes snap their recent skid.

The Nasdaq rallied 1.3%. The S&P 500 gained 0.9%. The Dow rose 384 points, or 0.7%. The major indexes snapped three-day losing streaks.

The big winner was the PHLX Semiconductor Sector Index, which had its best day in more than a month. Chip stocks dominated the S&P 500 and covered for an otherwise mixed day for the market benchmark.
