Stock futures were falling ahead of the open Thursday as investors assessed rising inflationary risks from the conflict with Iran, and a flurry of earnings reports.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 250 points, or 0.5%, after the index ended six points lower on Wednesday to finish at 52,218. S&P 500 futures lost 0.5% with contracts tracking the tech-heavy Nasdaq down 0.6%.

Inflation is on focus again amid renewed U.S. strikes against Iran and diminishing signs of progress in peace talks. The fear is that the Federal Reserve may be more likely to raise interest rates if oil prices keep climbing as a result of the prolonged disruption of crude shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
