المشترون في مزاد الـ 20 عامًا يطالبون بعلاوة
A sale of 20-year U.S. government bonds saw solid buyer interest on Wednesday. But Treasury prices still fell as investors asked for a small premium.
The Treasury Department sold $16 billion of newly issued 20-year bonds at 1 p.m. Eastern. There was heightened interest in the auction as the Treasury made an unexpected announcement of bond buybacks earlier this morning. That news had raised prices of Treasuries.
But this afternoon's auction reversed some of those gains. The auction saw investors accept a yield of 5.204% on the 20-year note, compared with the past six auctions’ average of 4.874%. It was also 0.004 percentage points higher than the yield seen before the bidding deadline. Higher rates signal the Treasury had to entice investors with higher yields to buy the U.S. debt.
