The dollar weakened against a basket of currencies amid uncertainty about whether the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates despite a solid U.S. economic backdrop.

The currency stayed near a three-month low reached Thursday in the wake of a U.S. Treasury announcement that it would increase buybacks of long-dated debt.

The economy points to a stronger dollar over the coming months, but surprises from U.S. policymakers may matter more in the near term, Capital Economics' Jonas Goltermann said in a note.
